Artist Statement, 2026
My work begins with the perspective from which I view the world—from the very spot where I stand—and poses the question: "How do we experience and remember the spaces we inhabit?" I am interested in how elements rooted in the past manifest within the familiar landscapes of our cities and daily lives, and how they engage with our contemporary existence.
At the core of my practice lies an interest in the unique aesthetic sensibilities of Korean tradition and their contemporary interpretation. I view tradition not as a static relic of the past, but as a living culture that evolves and expands through its encounter with present-day sensibilities. This perspective informs my installation work, where disparate temporalities, cultures, and material elements converge.
For me, installation art is a means of generating new meaning through the interplay between space and the viewer’s experience. I explore the possibilities for various elements to connect and coexist within a single space, with the hope that what has been carried forward from the past may continue to hold new significance within our lives today.
